Winter provides me some much needed downtime and time to photography people/places/things I don’t normally shoot.  It let’s me explore some creativity, work on personal projects, and try my hand at photographing subjects that are out of the norm for me.  This is one of those session:)  Jen and Dexter recently became a family when Jen adopted him from the  Animal Rescue League of Portland.  And just like any family they needed their portrait taken.  Photographing animals is quite different than photographing humans and Dexter made me work for it.  It took a bit of time to gain his trust, each time I raised the camera to my face he cowered behind Jen – camera shy I guess you could say!  One change of the lens so I could back way off and Dexter and Jen were ready for the camera.

Just like any dog Dexter likes his treats and I am  not ashamed to say we bribed him into a few tricks for the camera.

Dexter has a toy named Piggy – he didn’t really want to give that up:)

Tyler: Senior Portrait

September 8, 2008

I haven’t done many senior portraits, I think its important to stick to specializing in one thing and mine is weddings and kids (ok thats 2!!) but when a client asked me to shoot a few images of her brother for his yearbook I couldn’t say no!
Tyler was fun to work with and after I promised him I would keep it short and painless I even think he had a little fun!   Now, if you were down on the beach on Friday afternoon you know that there was some heavy fog!  But both Tyler and I actually liked the effect it had on the images – giving it an almost hazy, cloudy affect – like it might be part of a dream!

Thanks Tyler!  I had  a great time!

Libby: Headshot Session

August 20, 2008

Tonight the lesson is be yourself. Not just because I am listening to Dane Sanders book on photography and being yourself is one of his mantras – but also because I am editing the headshot session I did for Libby last week. One of the reasons these photos came out so great is because Libby has the same philosophy I do – if you act like yourself and look like yourself in pictures then it makes it more real for people who see you on your website.  It gives them a connection to you, now they know what you look like and a bit of your personality when they are talking to you over the phone!

I shot this session for Libby because she will be launching a brand new website soon! I will update the post when she goes live so you can see how it comes together. For now, here are three of my favorites from the day:

My friend Sarah is about to embark on her first Breast Cancer Three Day Walk on August 3rd. Sarah is an incredibly talented, hard working, intelligent and determined woman who dedicates herself to everything she does and approaches it with focus and passion. If you get a chance you should visit her site and donate… its a fight worth fighting and I am proud to call her my friend.
