Meet Jess and Bob!  I spent a fantastic couple of hours with them on a Sunday morning in November (still catching up on the blog) when it seemed we had all of Portland to ourselves.   The light was just perfect as the three of us wandered around the Old Port talking of their upcoming wedding plans and getting to know each other.  Jess and Bob met three years ago and will be getting married this May Smith Barn in Peabody, MA and I could not be more excited for the day!!! A couple after my own heart they are planning lots of special touches for the day (pie station!  jam as favors!) and have photography as one of their priorities.  Their style is easy-going and well dressed and both expressed to me that they have fun doing anything – as long as they are together.  I think these images reflect that and the love that they have!

Bob proposed to Jess at Ri-Ra – not this Ri-Ra but having one in Portland helped:)

With the new year brings new engagements – a perfect time for me to highlight some of the engagement sessions I photographed last year on the blog!!

First up Erin and Dickie!

We first planned their engagement session for August but were forced to cancel due to a Hurricane!   It seemed only appropriate because Erin is a little bit of a Hurricane in Dickie’s life.  Erin is bubbly and outspoken and while Dickie is calm and collected.   I have known Erin for several years and her emails to me are filled with capitol letters and exclamation points to show her excitement as we discuss upcoming shoots or the design of her Save the Date cards.   Definite beach people with a love of summertime we were sure to include the beach and their dogs in the session.

Erin and Dickie will be married this July at the Wentworth By The Sea Country Club.  When I asked them what was most important to them about their wedding photographer Erin replied “That it captures the fun and laughter that is so promient in our lives”.   Here are some of those moments of fun and laughter that is so prominent in their lives.

We wandered over to the neighbors property to take advantage of some of their views and backdrops – including a pen with Donkeys.  While I was working with Dickie and Erin on a shot one of the donkey’s thought he might have a little snack.

I asked Erin and Dickie to walk away from me holding hands and then halfway up to “give me something” – little did I know the “something” would be the re-enactment of Jack and Jill:)  Friends of their have commented how this picture is so Erin and Dickie – comedy in action:)

I am excited to be posting Cathy and Jason’s engagement session!  Cathy found me through a friend at work whose child I had just photographed and she emailed me about some engagement images.  They are getting married this September in Vermont and while they had their wedding photographer all lined up what they wanted was some pictures of the two of them!  I was thrilled when they asked me to do that!

Cathy and Jason’s love story is adorable – both knew from day one that they were perfect for each other!  Love at first date is a wonderful!!!   Jason asked Cathy to marry him during a hike in Vaughn Woods so we started out there hiking through the woods to the place where Jason asked Cathy to marry him!

After our time in the woods we headed down to York Beach.   Golden light, the sound of waves and an adorable dress made the rest of our session perfect!

Where do I start!

This session has been in the making for months and all of the planning and anticipating was so worth it!

From my very first meeting wtih Justin and Christina they talked about doing a 50’s style engagement session.  It seemed crazy not to  considering Justin’s uncle had a passion for restoring vintage cars and they would have their pick of cars for the session.  I spent most of my first 20 minutes walking around gawking at the cars – all I could think was “My parents would love this”.  Whenever an “old” car drives by my parents tell me the make, model and year and then tell me all about how cars were special back then and how there were only so many releases a year which made it a big event!  I knew right off that my parents had nothing on Justin’s uncle.  His work was just amazing.

The outfits, the hair, the attitude – it all just screamed awesomeness!  Christina’s hair had just the right amount of style and sass.  Justin was a NATURAL for the camera and often was in position before I was done getting my lighting right.  They were a joy to work with and these images make me giddy every time I look at them!

This post clearly should have less words and more images because they do all the talking….

Our initial car was what they kept referring to as a bucket car – I am showing my car ignorance here but it had this great vintage feel to it.

I think this image is pure hotness – I am LOVING the mood and the black and white!

Next we moved onto a ‘59 Oldsmobile in Cherry Red – a perfect color pop to Christina’s yellow coat

We swapped outfits and cars and changed the mood a bit

Outfit change and we headed to a grassy field with an awesome green pickup…

When I asked them if they were handholders they said “no pinkie holders”:)

As the session wound down we busted out the Monopoly (Ok Horseopoly) board.  During the prep for the session I learned that they both loved to stay up late into the night playing Monopoly.  I think engagement sessions are about capturing who you are as a couple before you get married – so out the board came!

Rachael and Ross: Engagement

October 17, 2008

Rockport-Rockland??? Aren’t they close to each other?  I thought so until Matt and I took a trip up there this weekend to shoot Rachael and Ross’s engagement session.  Matt informed me that they were two different places and kind of not next to each other!  Good thing I have him and Rachael’s masterful directions!

Rockport was a great location for engagement pictures and with fall in full swing the scenery was wonderful!  Rachael and Ross are getting married next June at Ducktrap Retreat in a ceremony that promises to be elegant and lovely and fun - a perfect reflection of who they are as a couple!

The fall foliage is calling to me in sepia tones

We spent time in wooded paths and down by the harbor.  The light in the fall just starts to have that cool blue look to it.. I love it!

This might be my favorite of the day!  I am not sure if its the seal bench they are sitting on or how cute and in love they look!

There was a very cool train that made a great backdrop!  We weren’t the only ones to think so, there was a woman there waiting to take a picture for her grandson!

We swapped outfits and headed into town!

We grabbed a quick picture in front of this photography studio… I loved the irony! (Small side note… i could not think of the word irony as we were approaching the building, so I was stumbling over my words making it up as I went along.. fortunately Rachael thought of the word for me or it would have bothered me all night!  Thank you Rachael!)

One of the best parts of the day!  We went to the coffee shop that Rachael and Ross had their first date!  I love when we can incorporate personal parts of the couple into the session!  This is the very couch they sat on for their first date – and there they are ordering in the background!  I wonder if we can borrow the couch for the wedding day??? :)

Do not be distracted by the light from the case!  Look at the gorgeous couple smiling at you!

Another favorite of the day!  I LOVE THIS ONE!

What a great way to end this post!  Oh wait!  Its not over – click here for their slideshow!

Thank you Rachael and Ross!  I had a great time and I can’t wait til June!
