The first six weeks of being engaged have been a CRAZY! I seriously underestimated the amount of work that goes into planning a wedding in the beginning (venue, church, dress, etc, etc, etc). While Matt and I worked steadily on picking a ceremony site and finding a location I enlisted the help of some of my friends to get us started on the design of the wedding – the fun stuff! My friend Erica and I decided to turn the first official planning meeting into a party – a Mimosa’s and Matrimony party of course!
Erica was the hostess with the mostess and graciously had us all over to her house. She used her insanely good design skills and put together a rockin’ tablescape.

She want over the top and created these adorable table cards:)

Mimosa’s and Cupcakes were just some of the sweet treats for the day

Once we were done eating we got down to business. I have been planning my wedding in my head for a long time and when we got engaged I could not wait to see what kinds of things I could do myself! I love to craft and being engaged is just an excuse to try out all kinds of new crafts while I figure out how to bring a personal touch to the day! First off we tried these adorable Pinecone Boutonnieres by Martha Stewart!

I think they came out pretty good but I am not sure they work if we don’t go with brown for the big day! Thank you Alison – Martha Stewart would be proud!

Then we gave a bouquet a try! Being Valentine’s Day weekend there were lots of flowers to be had! I grabbed up 50 carnations from Whole Foods for our test bouquet. Detail plans for the bouquet came from this awesome book: Bouquet Chic. This task went to Sarah the most detail oriented of the bunch and she did not disappoint :) We will be using different flowers for the wedding but this at least showed us we could do it!

While all of the crafting was going on Erica and I poured over magazines and samples I had picked up and paint swatches to produce my wedding day design board! As you can see we are leaning towards something vintage with a neutral color palette. This design board now hangs in my living room and I am using it as the jumping off point for my next set of decisions. Thank you Erica for leading the charge on this!

The day could not have been more fun and was a perfect start to the planning process. Our next meeting is set for late April and by then I will have my dress! Matt and I are also close to making some final key decisions (ceremony/reception/party) and more on that very soon:)
I will leave you with this video – me chatting about the party interview style. My dorkiness is overwhelming sometimes!!
