Weekly Assignment: Blue

April 24, 2009

This weeks assignment was blue – and except for my blue laundry in the top right these are all blue images that I captured in Portland!  I decided to put them together in a detail board to highlight the blue in each AND because more boards are to come!  My friend Erica and I are going to head out in Portland tomorrow and work on an editorial assignment… I am expecting to put the results in a board like this!  I am so excited that Erica and I are headed out and the weather promises to be great!

Champion!

April 21, 2009

This past weekend we got Matt all moved in – it was alot of work and I am not even going to take ANY of the credit because he did most of the moving while I spent my time at home getting things sorted and organized.  We aren’t done but we need to be in the next week or so because its time to get out and get some food planted!

On a bright note the girls stopped by for a visit Saturday morning.  We draw a hopscotch board when they come over, this time Riley invented a new square for the “100″.  She played for a while and then declared herself the champion – and she was!  Here she is rockin her hopscotch moves!

My post this week is LAME-O!!!  I only have three pictures for this weeks rebirth.  I actually thought about this post quite a bit and shot some images but ran out of time for processing due to client demands!  Here they are!  These flowers are growing outside of my  house!

Growth for the year!

April 14, 2009

We are in the middle of a stretch of nice weather here in Maine.  When I say nice in April all I really mean is Sunny – it’s still in the 30’s when we wake up in the morning and if the wind blows you can still feel the chill.  Still its a step in the right direction and it has Matt and I talking and getting prepped for our garden this year!  Matt and I have a quite a large garden with plans this year to increase the size of it.  We have a goal of someday eating only what we can grow on our own or get from the state of Maine.  The goal might not be attainable but on our journey there we are getting more self-sufficient!

This is our garden, covered in a “fertilizer” from the chickens down the street – just waiting for us to get planting.

We are planting a ton of vegetables this year – lots and lots of variety.  We are sticking to our local roots and buying many of the seeds from Fedco – a Maine based company.  To add to our (lofty) goals someday we would like to be able to plant with seeds from our vegetables from the previous year – one thing at a time!

Matt is really the gardener/farmer around here… I get involved but with Wedding and Gardening season being on the same timeline I am more advisor than farmer!  I do plant some flowers and this year I plan on having a beautiful mini-field of daisy’s!  They are one of my favorites and cute backgrounds for pictures with kids!

gardenblogpost-4-of-4Keep your fingers crossed for lots of rainy nights this summer.  My paternal grandfather never let my paternal grandmother water the lawn – instead saying the good Lord would provide.  In homage to my grandparents I try to follow the same rule…. now we just need lots of rainy nights:)

We have had 2 weeks off since the last weekly photo assignment. Honestly I think the last one was too hard and we all just wanted a pause (ok maybe just me!) In any case this week our assignment was Favorites!
This post seems crazy without a picture of my nieces but since my last post was entirely about them I think I have it covered!
Fore Street - By far my favorite restaurant in Portland and probably ever! The atmosphere is just right for me – big open fireplace, open kitchen, renovated warehouse with open construction, wood floors and rustic tables. If I could pick one place to live for the rest of my life it is above this restaurant – except they don’t have an apartment above it.

I didn’t want to seem to stalkerish but here they are unloading fresh food for tonight’s meal from local farms… I Heart Them!

I love the movies – mostly all kinds and will go see anything if I think its not going to make me say “I will never get those 2 hours of my life back”. I wish I went more but Matt and I do go quite often. My movie experience has changed since meeting Matt -we see much more artsy and not well known movies than before. Some I have loved, some have been strange and some I wish I had never seen!

Mail – I love getting mail and this winter when my mailbox was destroyed and it was several days before we could get it corrected I realized how much I look forward to going to the mailbox every day. You never know what you might find in there and the surprise is the best part! I will admit to being disappointed some days when mail is light (or I have none!) but sometimes I get a card from the girls or Matt and it brightens the end of my day.

I adore these little bags from Etsy. They aren’t all from the same seller, two are from this seller and the small black one is from this seller. I adore Etsy while we are at it but I couldn’t figure out how to take its picture – screenshots don’t count.

My camera’s – it goes without saying I love these things!

Board games and game night! Might be because last night we were out playing Clue with friends but I do love board games! I am looking forward to game night every night when we go on vacation in June – there is no TV and the location is somewhat remote so there is nothing to do but play games – YAY! I particularly like this series of classic board games because they look nice on my bookshelf.
